By Victoria Robertson on November 30, 2019

As far as beautiful places to visit go, New Zealand should be at the top of your list. It’s not only home to some of the most interesting locations and hotspots that you won’t want to miss, but it’s also simply an adventure you’ll never forget.

So basically, if you’re looking for a good time, sight-seeing and adventure that’s unmatched in any other country, you’ll want to take a look into New Zealand and the potential joy it can bring to your bucket list.

Without further ado, here are six reasons you should be adding New Zealand to your bucket list.

1. Visit Hot Water Beach

That’s right; New Zealand has its very own “Hot Water Beach” where you can dig to get to hot water, and where you and family/friends can soak the stress away. This is fun for individuals of all ages, and you’ll never experience something like it anywhere else.

Located in the Coromandel, this beach is popular amongst tourists and locals alike, as it’s a great way to spend time at the beach while enjoying warmer waters right off the shore. You’ll not only have a killer view, but you’ll also find yourself unwilling to leave.

2. Visit Hobbiton

You heard me correctly. New Zealand is home to the Shire, made popular by the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit franchises. For many, this is a must-see, but for others, it’s just a happy accident that they visit the acclaimed town to see it for themselves.

Hobbiton, as it’s called, allows you to walk around the Shire and experience a real-life move set. Whether you’re a film buff or just appreciate the beautiful aesthetics, this is something that’s unforgettable, to say the least. And while Frodo and the gang won’t be in attendance, you’ll walk away with some amazing photographs!

3. Take a Look at Some Glowworms

Sure, glowworms aren’t typically the first item on an individual’s bucket list, but that’s not to say that they aren’t worth seeing. New Zealand is home to caves that have Glowworms that light them up, creating a beautiful, picturesque trip.

These caves, the Waitomo Caves, feature thousands of these glowworms that provide a luminescent escape you’ll have to see to believe. These excursions typically involve cave diving, providing with you a new and totally unique perspective. While there are other locations with this phenomenon, this is the only one that’s largely accessible, making it easier than ever to see them do their thing.

4. Do Some Bird Watching

Yes, it’s more interesting than it sounds. The Kiwi Bird, a native bird to New Zealand that’s nocturnal, can be seen in several places in New Zealand, all of which are worth the trip out.

While they do live in the wild, you’re unlikely to see one there, so you’ll want to visit a zoo or sanctuary to get a good look. They’re endangered, but there are many conservation efforts out there to keep these birds safe, so make sure you see them while you’re able to!

5. Take a Look at the Southern Lights

Sure, you’ve heard of the Northern Lights, but have you heard of the Southern Lights? With hues of pink and green, the Southern Lights illuminate the southern skies in a beautiful and captivating dance that you’ll want to be a part of.

Because these lights are so uncommonly heard of, it’s just another thing to add to your bucket list to ensure you have plenty of exciting pictures to take. You will be the envy of all your friends, and you’ll certainly appreciate them more than you’d think.

6. Thrill Seeking

Aside from the above, more nature-driven adventures, there are plenty more adventures to be had in New Zealand. From cage diving, swimming with dolphins and bungee jumping to sky diving, spelunking and rolling down in a hill in a hamster ball (yes, I’m serious), there is so much to do in New Zealand that you may not even be familiar with.

Basically, if you can think of an adventure, New Zealand offers it. There are plenty of thrills to seek in this beautiful country, and you’ll certainly want to add all of these items (and more) to your bucket list if you haven’t already.

Basically, New Zealand is one of those locations that just isn’t done justice by images. It’s a beautiful location, filled with more to do than you would think. This is truly the trip of a lifetime, and it’s well worth the time, effort and money put into the trip.

The above six reasons are a great starting point to add to your bucket list, but there are plenty more ideas and things to do in New Zealand that you’ll want to consider making the trip out there for.
