All About the Eyebrows: 6 Trends You Need to See

By Sarah Christine Davis on September 21, 2015

When we think of trends, we usually think of hair styles, clothing, and footwear that are prominent during a particular time period. However, a new type of trend to throw into the mix is eyebrow shape.

We’ve all heard about the media’s obsession with eyebrows lately and heard the expression “eyebrows on fleek.” You have to admit that eyebrows are important; have you seen the website that is entirely dedicated to photos of celebrities with no eyebrows? The pages filled with eyebrow-less stars further prove the significant role that eyebrows play.

There are tons of different ways to achieve exquisite eyebrows. Not sure where to start? Check out some different ways to shape your eyebrows below!

1) Full and Fabulous

Cara Delevingne is the queen of this eyebrow style. Her thick and untweezed brows strike a perfect balance between disheveled and delightful.

In order to achieve this look, there is one rule: no plucking. If you’ve ever grown out your eyebrows, this will be difficult for a while. You’ll want to give up. However, if you really want to achieve this trend, it will be worth it in the end.

While you are growing them out, you may want to use an eyebrow pencil to fill in places that are half empty. Harper’s Bazaar recommends the Smashbox Brow Tech to Go pencil, which has a 5-star rating and is available here for $27.

2) Straight and Low

Eyebrows aren’t only getting fuller; they’re also dropping lower. This eyebrow also lacks an arch. As the peak of the brow moves closer and closer to the nose, the eyebrows obtain a more masculine appearance.

According to the Huffington Post, this lowering trend has been occurring for over 60 years, and now it’s really starting to gain momentum.

If you have arched eyebrows, which most females do, your best bet to achieve this look is to use an eyebrow pencil. You can do this by drawing from the bottom line of your eyebrow to the end of your eyebrow, and then doing the same with the upper line. YouTube user MakeupAndArtFreak offers a tutorial on how to do this here.

3) Clean and Arched

This put-together look will probably always have a place in the world of eyebrow trends. Classic and well-shaped, these eyebrows are fit for anyone who wants to look feminine and sophisticated.

While I encourage anyone to go for whatever eyebrow shape they want to, the website for Charles Morris Salon points out that the arched look is best for people with round, square, or diamond-shaped faces.

The best way to achieve an ideal arch is to get your eyebrows professionally waxed or threaded. If your eyebrows don’t currently have much of an arch, be aware that it may take a few sessions to achieve this look.

4) Dyed and Daring

In tune with the trend of dying your hair different colors of the rainbow, this trend involves dying your eyebrows a different color.

There are several options for how you can go about this. You can dye your brows to match your current crazy hair color, as Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting did. Conversely, you can dye them whatever fun color you want to and keep your natural hair color, as seen above.

No matter which way you decide to go about it, this look is sure to catch some eyes and raise some eyebrows – in a good way! If you decide to dye your brows at home, be very careful not to get dye in your eyes; it may be safer to get them done professionally at a salon.

5) Adorned and Awesome

If you’re feeling extra risky, you can bring additional attention to your eyebrows by accessorizing them. Whether it’s with a simple singular piercing or multiple piercings along the eyebrow, as seen from the label Rodarte above, eyebrow accessories are the perfect way to defiantly say, “I like how I look and I don’t care what you think.”

Speaking on the recent eyebrow jewelry craze, Refinery 29 suggests that since the eyes are the windows to the soul, eyebrows are the frame. Additionally, makeup artist James Kaliardos suggests that “emphasizing your brow, and finding an unusual way to do it, is a really powerful thing to do.”

6) Laced and Lovely

This trend is perfect for anyone who has trouble growing eyebrow hairs or who has lost hair for medical reasons such as chemotherapy.

Like wigs for your brows, lace front eyebrows are false strips of hair that you can apply to where your brows should be.

There are choices of color, level of thickness, and shape for these faux brows, which can either be purchased or made at home. Should you choose to go the purchasing route, these babies are available on the website of hair supply retailer Tiffani Chanel for $22.50.
