The UW Oshkosh women’s cross country team placed 20th at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Oct. 3.

Sophomore Kylee Verhasselt was the team’s top finisher, clocking a time of 17 minutes 48 seconds and placing 65th.

Junior Leah Rendflesh said she was happy with the way the team performed.

“We had a really solid pack and we all performed well,” Rendflesh said.

The Titans had six additional competitors complete the race in less than 19 minutes including freshmen Hannah Kuenzi, Cheyenne Moore and Isabella Tremonti, junior Leah Rendflesh, junior Danica Harrison, and senior Sonny Jenkins.

Women’s head coach Drew Ludke said the team’s performance matched his expectations.

“The team performed well and beat some very good teams,” Ludke said.  “We moved up in the team scoring from last year and beat several D1 teams. Almost everyone came home with a PR as well.”

The men’s team placed 11th at the Notre Dame Invitational and second at the Gene Davis Invitational held at Lawrence University on Oct. 4.

Junior Jordan Carpenter flew through the Notre Dame Invitational course in 24 minutes 29 seconds, placing ninth and earning the team’s top finish at the meet.

Men’s head coach Eamon McKenna said he was impressed with Carpenter’s performance.

“At Notre Dame, we had some quality performances and a number of personal records,” McKenna said. “Jordan Carpenter’s performance to finish ninth was particularly impressive.”

Additional scoring performances for the Titans came from sophomore Charlend Howard, senior Ryne Scopp, sophomore Tyler Miletti and senior Mike Foust.

Howard finished 46th in 25:14, Scopp placed 71st in 25:32, Miletti 82nd in 25:38 and Foust finished 90th in 25:44.

At the Gene Davis Invitational, the team placed eighth and freshman Trevor Damkot was the top collegiate performer, placing second in 26:37.

Freshmen Luke Geffers and Nate Meints placed 16th and 18th in 27:16 and 27:20 respectively.

McKenna said he was hoping to challenge UW-Stevens Point for the team win but was happy with the way his young runners performed.

“At Lawrence, we had a lot of young guys step up with nice personal records,” McKenna said. “We were hoping to challenge Stevens Point for the team win, but they were too deep for us on Saturday. Overall, though, it was another positive step for our young team.”

McKenna said he was satisfied with his team’s weekend results.

“I was pleased with the performance of our team at both meets,” McKenna said. “We had some quality performances and a number of personal records. Overall, it was another quality weekend for us, and we look forward to hosting the UW Oshkosh Invitational.”

Both teams are off until Oct. 18 when they host the AAE Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.
